It’s that time of year when Historic England release their latest Heritage at Risk register. Although as a practice we have the opportunity to be part of projects to help repair and restore buildings and landscapes for the future, the North East Register does draws your attention to the wealth of buildings, archaeology and landscape that are still at risk even just in our local area.

Having just moved into our new offices, a Grade II* listed John Dobson chapel situated in the heart of Jesmond Old Cemetery, it’s heartening to see Kate Wilson’s commentary on the plight of urban cemeteries in Newcastle. We’d love the opportunity to see how work at places such as this and St John’s Cemetery in Elswick can be progressed in the near future.

You can find out more details on the history and burials at Jesmond Old Cemetery through the Friends of Jesmond Old Cemetery website here, including information on John Dobson’s tomb located in the Cemetery itself.
